ANDY MANGELS

Recent Credits: SFX Magazine, Star Trek Monthly (UK), the book From Scream to Dawson's Creek: An Unauthorized Take on the Phenomonal Career of Kevin Williamson.

First pro work: Sections of the Fantagraphic book, Focus on George Perez. From there, moved into work on Amazing Heroes under Mark Waid's editorship. First published comic work was Child's Play from Innovation.

Dream project: The Teen Titans, Titans West, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Green Arrow, and Isis versus the League of Leather-Clad Sean Connerys (with Grimbor the Chainsman and a turned- to-evil Vartox thrown in as well).

Favorite project of your own: the best final product was JLI quarterly #17 (the last issue) with a Maxima story by myself and Phil Jimenez. It was a sequel to the Teen Titans "Runaway" issues. An undiscovered classic story, it will likely remain fairly undiscovered due to its placement. Other than that, I was very proud of my Stonewall issue of Quantum Leap (#9) for Innovation, as well as Boba Fett: Twin Engines of Destruction for Dark Horse, and most of my run (#14-25) of Gay Comics.

First comics ever read: A World's Finest with Superman, Batman, and Robin performing at a circus. It would have been somewhere around 1971 I read it, but it was an earlier comics. First I ever owned of my own was Teen Titans #6, "A Killer Called Honeybun." A friend gave it to me!

Favorite comic of all time: probably the Watchmen series, although the Perez/Wolfman Titans had some incredible work in them that has rarely been matched.

Comics currently read: Starman, Tug and Buster, Naughty Bits, Dork, anything by George Perez and Phil Jimenez, and James Robinson. Still buy JLA and WW and Aquaman, just out of completeness' sake.

One person you'd like to meet: Meet: George Lucas. "Meat": Sean Connery.

Last good movie you saw: The Faculty. I enjoyed it for exactly what it was. And the fact that I'm writing a book about its (openly?) gay screenwriter isn't a factor.

Last good book you read: Savage Love, a collection of Dan Savage's advice columns.

Billy or Carlos: Definitely Carlos. I don't do anyone who doesn't have facial hair!

Celebrity you would have for a night: Sean Connery or George Michael. Sam Elliot or Jeff Daniels in Gettysburg come in next.

Favorite gay character: Tasmanian devil 'cause he's big and hairy, and Big Gay Al ' cause he's Super.
