sean,

Grievance? Haha. Nope. I think I've made my "grievance" very (embarrassingly) clear. So thanks for the email address, but as you know, since we used to email each other practically everyday, I am fully aware of how to contact you. I would also extend the same offer to you the next you feel the need to hide behind a screen-name and criticize me in public. I would post my email address here as well but I don't feel the need to make such so bold, a passive-aggressive statement.

Best wishes!
Brian

Hi, Brian,
We're all human. While I'm unaware of the incidents you mention, and therefore can't comment and shouldn't anyway as they didn't involve me, I can tell you that I've done things in this LGBT comics niche that I'm not proud of and wish I'd never done. There's one comic creator who, at least several years ago, might have kicked me in the balls if our paths had crossed after an incident. It may yet happen next month when our paths will cross, and the consequences will be mine to bear.

So I would find it unfortunate for all parties if there've been bad incidents between you and Sean. As part of my ongoing effort to transform the cynical part of me, I can only hope there'll be an opportunity to put the past to rest, and I know that's between you and he.

Maybe if/ when my story is finished you might be interested in giving me your thoughts, especially if any or all of it doesn't work for you. At least it would provide the chance to see it through another person's eyes and come away with a better understanding of the work, and potentially the audience. The worst comment there can be in my opinion is "it's interesting".

Thanks for responding and for the comments aimed at me.

Hey Joe!
Welp, I'm a busted! Haha. And yeah, I was being petty. Why, you ask? Well, gee. Mainly because Sean himself has publicly bashed me using a "assumed name" himself on various other websites, like Comicbookresouces and Newsarama, etc. So I guess I felt the need to give him a taste of his own medicine. Petty, I know. Oh well, I'm human. I remain a fan of yours, Joe, and the work and effort you put out. And I was a fan, and thought I was a friend of Sean's (even getting his comics into my local comic store), until he attacked me and my work. So I reacted childishly. But thanks for calling me out on my dumbness! Dispite my stupid post, I really wish Sean all the best. I guess I just tried to teach an ill-avised lesson. Oh well.
Much love!

Goodness, I had no idea this comment made by Downtherabbithole came from Brian Anderson, whose "So Super Duper" I've gone on record as liking. Well, that is the information that comes up bound to the comment's IP address. I still appreciate that you took time to read the interview, even if only in part. I often skim interviews and articles myself.

The way you chose to express your thoughts does perplex me. To each their own. Personally, I think there is more than enough room for writers of every stripe to work with an artist to present comics. The medium needs diversity, just as the LGBT community as a whole is diverse. Heck, the entire world. I don't get a lot of yaoi though it's extremely popular here and in Japan. It doesn't stop me from enjoying some yaoi. One day soon I hope to finish my own little comic and present it in some fashion. Before I even started I accepted that its appeal would likely be very narrow, but I'm doing it for myself and the story because I haven't seen anything exactly like it available in this country. I think part of the answer to the "what is the price of a writer" question I asked Sean is to have one's work put out for public consumption and either to have it ignored or disparaged for various reasons. Which is not to say I think people can't find faults with a work. It will hurt if people trash my (future) work, but I can hope that it will be done as constructive criticism that I can take to heart and grow. That's one of the purposes of a critique that I learned while at Chicago's Art Institute, my alma mater. But the internet is rarely conducive to that kind of discussion.

I'm sorry that I've not yet re-published my review of the first issue of SSD on this new version of Gayleague. It wasn't a slight to the work, just that I've not quite decided on the best format to re-present older reviews. I will try to correct this though.

BTW, there seems to be some straight porn spam on your Friendster profile
http://profiles.friendster.com/1296451

Again, your stopping by is appreciated!

Hello,
I appreciate that you took time to read part of the interview. Obviously our opinions differ, and I found reading Frater Mine a nice change of pace. Your opinion probably wouldn't change favorably if you had the same opportunity. Even my favorite comics writers sometimes miss the mark in my opinion and the appeal of some other popular writers just escapes me.

Asking with sincerity here, would you mind sharing some of your favorite writers?
