Hotlinking Is A Minor Vexation

One of the nice things about WordPress is that it provides a short list of recent incoming links from other blogs and sites. One of my peeves is hotlinking – the practice of a blogger or webmaster directly linking to an image on another website, with or without permission. Sure, even WordPress makes it easy to hotlink images, but does that make doing it right? If you can’t scan an appropriate image yourself, why not try contacting someone at the site where you have found an image and ask for permission to copy it with a simple right click? Or even just copy and give credit where credit is reasonably due? After all, some stranger is likely saving you the time of finding the image and scanning as well as any cost involved if printed matter is the source.

Please don’t hotlink to images you find on this site or you may find a surprise.
