Started in 2009, Genghis Con is an award-winning annual Small Press and Underground Comic Convention held on the Sunday after Thanksgiving at The Lake Erie Building, in Lakewood, Ohio.
Genghis Con’s purpose is to bring together and celebrate the regional proliferation of Independent Print Media that’s been growing and thriving between Chicago, Pittsburgh and Columbus with Cleveland at its center, with a heavy focus on the Art Form of Comics and the Craft of Storytelling, as well as the Small Press Print Medium.
There are plenty of other Comic Conventions that focus on fandom and mainstream pop culture. Genghis Con has been, and will always be, about the D.I.Y. ethic and the Independent, Underground Culture that maintains to be a place that fosters fresh, new ideas and the opportunity for more personal, open engagement between the creators and their readers.
One of the other missions of Genghis Con has been to make the show as accessible as possible, both to new creators and new readers. The exhibitor table rates and kept low, and we do some minor curating to ensure the full spectrum of exhibitors from long-time professional comics veterans to rookie zinesters, publishing for the very first time.
Genghis Con is also free, family friendly and open to the public.
